Thorhild Landfill Opening

November 9, 2015 / By WMSolutions.com Industrial Waste

Waste Management is excited to announce the opening of Thorhild Landfill in Alberta, Canada. This tremendous resource for the industrial generators of Western Canada provides safe and convenient disposal services coupled with the latest advances in landfill technology. Communities served include Central and Northern Alberta, Thorhild County and the City of Edmonton.

Operating on 454 hectares with 85 hectare permitted footprint, the facility can process roughly 200k to 400k of waste annually. The regional greenfield facility is engineered with environmental protection systems to meet or exceed rigorous government regulations, and are subject to highly regulated monitoring and reporting requirements. Systems include engineered liners and covers, leachate collection and removal, and an extensive groundwater monitoring program.

The facility holds a CLASS II Private Landfill and Wetland Restoration permit submitted by Waste Management of Canada in March 2010. Security for Thorhild Landfill is ensured by controlled, limited access to the facility as well as perimeter fencing and an electrified bear fence. The facility can only be accessed via a single gate, which directs all traffic to a gatehouse occupied during business hours by trained personnel. During non-business hours the gate is locked and monitored by electronic surveillance.
