800-963-4776TSCA/PCB DISPOSAL
In 1976, the federal Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the power to track and regulate approximately 75,000 industrial chemicals. Central to TSCA were regulations banning the use, manufacture, processing and distribution in commerce of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). TSCA regulations also strictly regulated the storage and disposal of PCBs.
Today, many manufactured items containing PCBs and other TSCA-regulated materials are being removed from service. At the same time, sites where these manufactured items were once used must be carefully tested for PCB residue and, when necessary, decontaminated. As North America’s leading solid waste disposal company, Waste Management operates several sites across the United States that are specially permitted for the treatment and disposal of TSCA-regulated materials, including PCBs. They include:
- Chemical Waste Management (CWM) of the Northwest – Arlington, Oregon
- Chemical Waste Management (CWM) – Kettleman Hillls, Kettleman City, California
- Chemical Waste Management (CWM) – Emelle, Alabama
- CWM Chemical Services – Model City, New York
In 1998 EPA promulgated the PCB MegaRule. This rule allowed additional facilities including Chemical Waste Management in Lake Charles (Sulphur, LA) and Subtitle "D" landfills across the United States to accept certain types of PCB waste.
At each CWM facility, you will find the infrastructure, equipment and technical expertise to transport, treat and/or dispose of PCBs and other TSCA-controlled materials in a manner that is both cost-effective and in compliance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations.
A RANGE OF MANUFACTURED PCB ITEMS ACCEPTED
Our PCB disposal facilities are able to accept virtually all solid wastes containing this regulated substance including, but not limited to:
-
Transformers
-
Capacitors (large and small)
-
Circuit breakers
-
Rectifiers
-
Switches
-
Light ballasts
-
Diffusion pumps
-
Compressors
-
X-ray units
Many of our facilities are equipped for the storage of PCB-bearing materials as well as their disposal. For your convenience, all manifests are done in kilograms.
